Based on the title, you might be expecting a time management lecture, but I promise this is not the case. You can relax. đ This is a rhetorical question that I wish I had asked myself more often when I was younger. Why? Because it helps you analyze where your interests and passions are, or possibly even helps you identify them if you are not sure what they are, or if you even have any.
I think many people's answer to the question of what is being done with extra time would include video games. That's a great hobby for many people, but hobbies might also include listening to music, reading, drawing, fishing, archery, gymnastics, cooking, or any other number of activities. As a young person, I didn't really think much about how I was spending my time. I wasn't allowed to have video games so those were out of the question. In some ways, I think that was good because I had to fill my time with other things.
Even though I had to fill my time with other things, it didn't occur to me that there was a pattern present. Looking back at it, I spent my free time writing, drawing, working with clay, and creating bead projects. I would craft special cards or mini pop-up cards and books. If I had an idea, I would try to create it as long as I had the materials. All of the things I voluntarily did during my free time were creative in nature. If I had paid slightly more attention to the things I chose to do with my free time, I might have realized that I should have pursued more creative endeavors. I got there eventually, but I would have saved myself a lot of time and would be further ahead than I am right now after finally realizing these things.
If you're also not sure if you have passions, or what you might want to do with your life, pay attention to the types of things you like to do. Is there an underlying current that somehow connects all the things you enjoy doing? There might not be, but perhaps you enjoy working with numbers, or creating physical objects, or visualizing designs. It's just a little helpful step on the way to decoding yourself, and hopefully it'll come in handy for your future.
What are your most favorite hobbies? Do you have a hobby or hobbies that make you lose track of time?
